Is Our Faith Valid

Have you ever thought about the validity of your faith? What about the law and our faith? It is mentioned in: Romans 3:27 Romans 2:17, 23 1 Corinthians 1:29 Ephesians 2:9 After reading scripture, I can see all God has done for me has been done in a strategic way. Allow me to explain... I am  "saved by grace through faith and not of myself.  It is a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8,9 I knew that I was saved by grace, but I have never taken the time to think about what this scripture really says. Take a moment and look into this with me... My works nor my deeds saved me.  My salvation is a gift of God and the word says that it is through faith that I am saved. Is it through my faith in God that I am saved? Yes, but by His grace.  It is through my faith in what He has done.  There is nothing alone that I can do apart from God.  I cannot even save myself. For if I had faith, that would be great, but it is not until the grace of God has entered in to the equation that I am saved. So, what then is the grace of God? I believe it is the power to be saved.  It is, as one commentry puts it, "the source of … [Read more...]

Asking Questions

Today as I was reading my bible, I found that I began to have questions about what I was reading. Now these questions were not simple. They were very complex. I sat and contemplated and then realized that I would not be able to find the answer within myself, so I asked God. Now there are times in life when questions are simple and can be answered very quickly, but then there are times like this. I know that the complexity of this question will take some time to receive an answer. It's not because it takes God a long time to answer my questions. The opposite is true. He is able to answer my questions within a nano second. Yet, some questions require prayer and a silencing of my heart. I think of it this way. When we are talking to someone that we are very close to and care about, we must be attuned to where their heart is in a situation. We must listen attentively for the answer that they give. We can't force them to talk and once they do, we have to have a open heart to clearly receive their answer. God is no different. He wants to talk to us. He loves it when we ask Him questions, but unlike man, He knows the condition of our hearts. He knows why we are … [Read more...]

Asking Hard Questions…

Psalm 73 1 Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. 3 For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. 5 They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills. 6 Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence. 7 From their callous hearts comes iniquity[b]; their evil imaginations have no limits. 8 They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. 9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. 10 Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. 11 They say, “How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?” 12 This is what the wicked are like— always free of care, they go on amassing wealth. 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. 14 All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. 15 If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children. 16 When I … [Read more...]

Make Your Requests Known

I have read your comments and although many of you are pleased with my writings, there are those who have given many suggestions and asked questions about the blog in general and other information. Because I value your input, I will be making some additions to the blog over the next couple of months. I am one to encourage personal study and a hands on approach in life. This is how I came to have a blog. I had a desire to express to others all that I was getting in my personal study and what I was learning, by observation. These questions that you have asked, have encouraged me to do what I had been planning all along, but just sooner. I will be adding a How To Study Your Bible page to the site. It will eventually become a book, but that is further down the road. The page will include topics like Bible references, notes, commentaries, where to start, hebrew and greek definitions, etymology, ancient history, prayer, and much more. Proverbs 7 is the most popular post on this site. I has generated tons of visitors and comments. After people read the post, they often request that I write more on the subject. Since you all are inspired by the topic and desire more, I will be … [Read more...]

The Dark Hour of Despair

There are times when we feel like everything is crumbling. You know those times...I know those times. We have all tasted the bitter taste of fear tormenting us about some aspect of our lives. Its the part that keeps us up at night, wondering, pondering, waiting. But what are we waiting for? It is like our soul or our spirit, some part of us, is awaiting an answer. What is the question? Can I trust you? Will you let me down? Will you let me fall? Can I depend on you? Yes, these are the deep gut wrenching questions that seem to haunt our minds and disturb our peaceful thoughts. Why? Yes, that too, is a question. Why? Well, we need to know at the core of ourselves. That there is someone who is looking out for us when life seems to be throwing curve balls. At those times, if we quiet ourselves and listen hard, what can be heard is a still quiet voice saying "I am here. I will not leave you nor forsake you. You can trust me." And knowing that it was the voice of the Lord we still kinda wonder, "really!?" The thing about God is He has no problem with us having questions. He really wants us to ask of Him; to be inquisitive and ponder the answers. He created … [Read more...]
