But… Changes Everything

There are times in life when we don't feel like things are going the way that they should, for us. We look at the lives of others and can see God's plan working in their lives. Yet, it is hard to see what He's doing in ours. This is normal. The human tendency is to see the grass as being greener on the other side. The man or woman on the other side always seems to be doing better, achieving more, working harder, receiving more approval, more well liked...and more, more, more. Just because it's the way things seem, doesn't mean that's the way it is. One thing about the bible, that I love, is the fact that the words in it are real and true. The men and women in the bible don't put up a beautiful image of what their lives were like so that we won't know what was really going on. Instead, they tell it how it really is or was. They keep it real with us...especially in the Psalms. Let's look at Psalm 13 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide Your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, O Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or … [Read more...]

Caring: Week 1 Day 2

August 2013: Week 1 Day 2 Care: What does it mean? Yesterday we read Psalm 1. We focused on verse 3 where we are told that God is our caretaker. Did you examine your life? Were you able to see the ways that God has been there for you and provided the right environment for your growth? If you weren’t able to see that, have you decided that you would become the person that is described in Psalms 1? Today we are going to take a look at the word care and what it means. For this, I went to the dictionary and you can do the same. With words like this there are two different definitions. There is the word care that we have determined we will give to God. It is a noun. Let’s remember what a noun is. It is a person place or thing. Why is this important, you may ask… Well, when we are trying to understand concepts and the precepts in the word of God, we have to know what words mean. If we can come to an intellectual understanding of the words that are being used, the true meaning of the concepts and be translated into our hearts. Ok…back to the word care. The word care that is a noun is the something that we give to God. That person, place, or thing is defined in … [Read more...]

Caring: Week 1 Day 1

August 2013: Week 1, Day 1 August is the month of caring. With this, remember that the Lord cares for you. Our bible reading for today is Psalm 1 Blessed is the man
 Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
 Nor stands in the path of sinners,
 Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
 And in His law he meditates day and night.
 He shall be like a tree
 Planted by the rivers of water,
 That brings forth its fruit in its season,
 Whose leaf also shall not wither;
 And whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so,
 But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
 Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
 But the way of the ungodly shall perish When reading this passage of scripture, we can see that the person that follows the will of God, prays, trusts, and delights in Him will be blessed. I don’t know about you, I am that person. I look for my needs to be met. His ways are my delight. This world can make it hard, so when I lose focus, I rely on the Lord to bring me back to the place … [Read more...]

Where is God when things go crazy?

Where is God when things are going crazy? Where is God when the world is topsy-turvy? Does God have anything to say about the things that are taking place in the earth? Psalm 75 1 We thank you, God, we thank you— your Name is our favorite word; your mighty works are all we talk about. 2-4 You say, "I'm calling this meeting to order, I'm ready to set things right. When the earth goes topsy-turvy And nobody knows which end is up, I nail it all down, I put everything in place again. I say to the smart alecks, 'That's enough,' to the bullies, 'Not so fast.'" 5-6 Don't raise your fist against High God. Don't raise your voice against Rock of Ages. He's the One from east to west; from desert to mountains, he's the One. 7-8 God rules: he brings this one down to his knees, pulls that one up on her feet. God has a cup in his hand, a bowl of wine, full to the brim. He draws from it and pours; it's drained to the dregs. Earth's wicked ones drink it all, drink it down to the last bitter drop! 9-10 And I'm telling the story of God Eternal, singing the praises of Jacob's God. The fists of the wicked are bloody stumps, The arms of the righteous are lofty green branches. So where is God … [Read more...]

Asking Hard Questions…

Psalm 73 1 Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. 3 For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. 5 They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills. 6 Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence. 7 From their callous hearts comes iniquity[b]; their evil imaginations have no limits. 8 They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. 9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. 10 Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. 11 They say, “How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?” 12 This is what the wicked are like— always free of care, they go on amassing wealth. 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. 14 All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. 15 If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children. 16 When I … [Read more...]

The Courage to Remain

It isn't always easy to do what is right.  Not one person across the globe has intentionally said "I am always going to do what is wrong." Yet each decision that we make falls into one of the following categories, right decision and wrong decision.  That right and wrong aren't just any old right and wrong, but instead they are the right and wrong from the perspective of One who is truly able to judge.  This One has the best interest of everyone involved in every situation and so when He looks at a thing and judges,.He judges wisely and righteously. I'm sure that by now, because of all the capital "H's" you were able to figure out who He is, but in knowing whom He is there may be a bit of apprehension.  You may be thinking, "How am I supposed to make decisions that God would see as being right?"  Well, there is a way to measure the decisions that are being made.  Just like in this world that we live in there are laws that set standards and tell a person if they are making a right decision or a wrong decision.  There are also spiritual laws that govern the decisions that we make.  Those laws are found in the bible. This morning, I am amazed by the Lord, His infinite wisdom, and … [Read more...]

A Prayer From Psalm 17

Praying the word of God is one of the best things that we could do in our lives.  Sometimes our hearts search for the words that would make our deepest cry known to our God and Father.  The Lord has given us these words as guidance and as a resource for those moments when we want to use wisdom as well as cry out "Abba Father, I need You!" Be encouraged to pray the words of this psalm and in your heavenly language.  For in the Spirit we speak in an unknown tongue directly to the heart of God...what more could we ask for?  Remember, He hears us when we pray. A prayer of David. Hear me, LORD, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips. Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed. Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded. My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled. I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my … [Read more...]

Psalm 6

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, have mercy on me in Your hot displeasure. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord heal me, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O Lord-how long? Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies' sake! For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks? I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears. My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of my enemies. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer. Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly. ~Psalm 6 What does this psalm tell us? This psalm shows us the emotions if David, a man after God's own heart. It gives us freedom to come to God in honesty about the things we are enduring. Through David's emotions in this psalm God let's us know that it's alright to feel and to express those feelings to Him in prayer. The Lord hears us when we … [Read more...]

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When you said, "seek My face," My heart said to You, "Your face, Lord I will seek," Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my … [Read more...]
