What You Should Know About Anxiety

Last week, I encouraged you to stop being anxious and fearful.¬† I‚Äôm sure that I left you with a few questions, so this week, I am going to tell you a few things you need to know about anxiety. What is anxiety? Anxiety is a state of mind were a person is concerned about something or someone.¬† It has various ranges.¬† ‚ÄúIt can go from genuine concern... ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.¬† ~Philippians 2:20 So I am all the more anxious to send him back to you, for I know you will be glad to see him, and then I will not be so worried about you.¬† ¬†~Philippians 2:28 And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. ¬†~2 Corinthians 11:28 to obsessions that originate from a distorted perspective of life.‚ÄĚ(source The Master Study Bible)   For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ‚ÄúLook at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. … [Read more...]

Stop Being Anxious and Fearful?

What am I going to do? I am not happy? ¬†I feel overwhelmed. I have too much going on and I don't know how I am going to be able to do all of this. What will tomorrow look like? Will I be able to help my family? Will they think I'm a failure? What about me? Where is my place in all of this? These are questions that we all ask at some point in time in our lives. ¬†Sometimes we ask the questions and then continue to be productive in life. ¬†At other times, these questions cause us to begin to experience certain emotions within ourselves that are hard to get past. ¬†Whether we realize it or not, when we do not deal¬†with these thoughts in the correct manner, they produce anxiety within us. Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. ¬†~Proverbs 12:25 What is anxiety? Anxiety is defined as... a condition of mental uneasiness arising from fear or solicitude. Very few of us can say that we have never experienced anxiety. ¬†From the moment that we begin to ask questions like, what am I going to do, and are not able to provide and answer, anxiety arises within us. ¬†We are uncertain about the future and become fearful because we have … [Read more...]

Does wisdom require patience?

Throughout my life, I have come to a place where I had to make a decision. Naturally, I'm sure you have been in this place too. Often times, I have not been sure about the thing I should do or the words that I should say. ¬†If I am to be completely honest with you, at moments where I am full of emotions, I don't want to wait or take my time. ¬†I get rather antsy... I want to hurry up and make a decision or say something. I have come to realize that the wise are patent because they wait to hear wisdom speak. ¬†When we move or act hastly, we are unable to hear wisdom clearly because we are acting out of our own wills and thoughts. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it. ~Proverbs 8:33 When we decide to turn from our own wills and thoughts, we turn from pride and arrogance. ¬†We turn from evil and perverse things. ¬†By turning from that which God hates, evil and perverse things, we turn to God. ¬†By turning to God we turn to wisdom. I wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion. ¬†The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. ¬†~Proverbs 8:12, 13 This seems so simple, but it is harder to … [Read more...]

10 Scriptures To Read When You Are Experiencing Doubt

We all have faith issues sometimes. Faith vs. Doubt Faith deals with what you can't see, while doubt deals with what you can. It sounds confusing, but Faith tells you that something that hasn't happened or that can't be seen, will be. Doubt says that because of what you see or because of what has already happened, things won't be. Faith As A Gift It has been said that faith is a gift from God and there is no way to increase it. ¬†While I agree with the first part of this statement, the second part is not true. So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. ~Romans 10:17 So what does this mean? Can Faith Grow? Well, we have all been given a certain measure of faith by God (Romans 12:3), but our faith can grow. (Luke 17:21, Mark 4:24) ¬†However that growing is not in the sense of more or less. ¬†Instead it is in the sense of being of quality. The question is not, "How much faith do I have?" as much as it is, "Is my faith strong?" Without strong faith, doubt creeps in and exposes us to troubles and fears in our lives. Steps To Take There are steps that can be taken to help with this process. We have to hear, read, or speak the word of God because … [Read more...]

Tearing Down Barriers

There are times in our lives, when we look to people to affirm the message in our hearts that God has already spoken. ¬†At these times, we have to realize that unless an individual has heard from God, they cannot affirm our call, our mission, or even the message that God has given. ¬† The truth is that looking to people for affirmation can sometimes lead us to a place of hurt, frustration, and even doubt. ¬†That's when it's most important to turn to God. ¬†It is at these times that we have to look to the Word of God to tear down barriers in our lives. That turning may feel difficult... You may not want to or even feel like going to your Bible. You may find so many other things to do that seem more important than turning to the Word of God for the moment, but let me assure you of one thing‚Ķthere is nothing more encouraging and powerful than the Word of God. So, when you feel that it is hard to get the Word, I encourage you to push‚ĶPUSH‚ĶPUSH‚Ķpush your way to the Word and watch God speak into your situation. He will give you boldness, clarity, and the affirmation that you were seeking... You will find yourself with the same boldness that Paul had. ¬†Read today's word from … [Read more...]

Stop Doing God’s Job

Have you ever been in a situation (or season of life) where you felt like nothing you did was working? Perhaps you were doing everything right but it felt like you were still hitting a brick wall. ¬†If you have been a Christian for long, you may have even experienced this with your own relationship with Christ... a sort of "dead area" ¬†where you could not hear Him, feel Him, and no matter how many prayers you sent up or Scriptures you read- you just could not break through. God seemed silent and uncaring; you were at an impasse spiritually and nothing you did could break you out of it. ¬†This is an extremely hard place to be in, but one that God often uses to either teach us something or to break us away from sin. I have recently given this ¬†season of silence a name; I call it- The Valley of Bones. Oooooohhhhh creepy. Let me explain why this is fitting in my opinion: First of all, when you are in this empty place, for many, there is a feeling of hollow pointlessness. You feel dead inside and more often than not, your hope is no where to be found. While you may not be thinking of death itself- when you cannot connect with the Father, there is a sort of decay that's … [Read more...]

Rules of Engagement

Rules of Engagement: a directive/s issued by a military authority specifying the circumstances and limitations under which forces will engage in combat with the enemy. I want to apply this to the spiritual battle all born-anew, followers of Christ engage in on a daily basis. Let's answer several¬†FAQ's! Why is this battle raging? When will it end? What is my defense? What are my weapons? Because your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.¬†1 Peter 5.8 Truthfully? When we die and go to heaven!¬†No more curse! The Word. The Word. The Word. After Jesus' baptism and before He began His earthly ministry, He went into the mountainous desert places surrounding the city and there He was tempted by the devil for forty days. His defense? He quoted scripture. You can read exactly what Jesus said to Satan¬†here. Here's where we can get excited because our God has armed us well! Every morning after we brush our teeth and comb our hair we get dressed, right? The best-dressed believer adds these items every day to their outfit! The belt of Truth -¬†Ephesians 6.14 The breastplate of Righteousness -¬†Ephesians 6.14 The shoes of … [Read more...]

But… Changes Everything

There are times in life when we don't feel like things are going the way that they should, for us. We look at the lives of others and can see God's plan working in their lives. Yet, it is hard to see what He's doing in ours. This is normal. The human tendency is to see the grass as being greener on the other side. The man or woman on the other side always seems to be doing better, achieving more, working harder, receiving more approval, more well liked...and more, more, more. Just because it's the way things seem, doesn't mean that's the way it is. One thing about the bible, that I love, is the fact that the words in it are real and true. The men and women in the bible don't put up a beautiful image of what their lives were like so that we won't know what was really going on. Instead, they tell it how it really is or was. They keep it real with us...especially in the Psalms. Let's look at Psalm 13 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide Your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, O Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or … [Read more...]

Moving Past The Past

The Lord says, "forget what happened before, and do not think about the past. Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Do you see it? I will make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land." Isaiah 43:18 … [Read more...]
