The Lord is My Shepherd

Trust in the Lord, He is Faithful

(I wanted to revive this and our trust in Him)

Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me besides the still waters

He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;  Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

This psalmist knew that God was faithful.  He saw God as a daily provider that would always take care of Him.

My question to you today is how do you see God?

Do you trust Him?

Do you trust His word?

The Lord is my shepherd…

(you may listen to the audio as this is taught on In His Name Ministries Prayer and Intercession, prayer line.)

Psalm 78:52, 53 But He made His own people go forth like sheep,
And guided them in the wilderness like a flock;

And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear;
But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

If I say “the Lord is my shepherd”, that means that I am a believer and I must  have a clear understanding that I am His sheep; therefore certain things apply to me automatically…

***I need Him for provision, guidance and care for my daily life.***

“I must understand that I have need for special care.  Sheep are the most dependent of all of God’s creatures.  They simply cannot make it by themselves.”

Rev 7:16, 17

They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat;for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

I have to be fed.

Isaiah 40:11

He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He will gather the lambs with His arm,
And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young.

“Sheep get lost easily and have a tendency to wander “so I need Him to keep me.

Jeremiah 50:6

My people have been lost sheep.
Their shepherds have led them astray;
They have turned them away on the mountains.
They have gone from mountain to hill;
They have forgotten their resting place.

Ezekiel 34:11

For thus says the Lord GOD: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.

“Sheep are very defenseless.  They are susceptible to almost any kind of attack.  They don’t have any natural defense such as claws, powerful jaws or the ability to run fast.  By themselves, they are open to all kinds of wild animals.”  I need His protection.

John 10:11, 14

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.

“Even with all of their faults, sheep were still viewed as a valuable possession.  Sheep produce meat for food and wool for clothing.  They have the ability to follow as they flow together and respond to the voice of their shepherd.  I am valuable.

John 10:3

To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Matt 6:26, 28

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not of more value than they?

So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Without a Shepherd to feed, tend, watch over and care for me, I cannot survive.”  I need a Shepherd to survive.

John 10:4

And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

Now lets look again at Psalm 23

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd , I shall not want

The word want here is translated as lack

If and when I say this, I must mean and understand that I shall not, may not, and I will not want. He is my shepherd and He provides for me.

Psalm 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me besides the still waters

He gives me a place to rest

Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake

He is my Restorer and my Leader

Psalm 23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;  Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

He is my Faithful Comforter

Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

He is my Protector, He sustains me, esteems me, and fills my every need, want and desire

Psalm 23:6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

He is my Dwelling Place.

It is important that we have examples to look at and things to read that will encourage us to trust God daily.  One of the best resources that we have is the Bible.  Those who came before us endured many things for our sakes.  They went through a lot so that we would have examples and testimonies of what to do and what not to do; what to say and what not to say.  I thank God for these resources.

Let’s take a look at some of the things that the scripture says…

Psalms 34:9,10

Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him.  The young lions lack and suffer hunger;but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Philip 4:19

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

He told Joshua in

Joshua 1:5, 9

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.  I will not leave you nor forsake you.

Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Read Psalm 34  The Happiness of those who trust in God

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.

I sought the Lord, and He heard my me, and delivered me from all my fears.  They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.

This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!  There is no want to those who fear Him.

The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Who is the man who loves many days, that he may see good?

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.

Depart from evil and do good;  seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry

The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

He guards all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Evil shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.

The Lord redeems the soul of His servants.  And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.

Psalm 34:8

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Psalm 2:12

Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Psalm 5:11

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

Ex 23:25, 26

“So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.  No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.”

Ruth 2:12

The LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

2 Sam 22:3, 31

The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge;  My Savior, You save me from violence.

As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the LORD is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

1 Chron 5:20

And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them, for they cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him.

Ps 9:10

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who see You.

Ps 20:7

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God

Ps 18:30

As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the Lord is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him

We must display our trust in God as in 2 Chron 14:11,
And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

Psalm 31:6  I have hated those who regard useless idols;
But I trust in the Lord

We musy pray as the Psalmist in Psalm 7:1,O Lord my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me,

Psalm 16:1 Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.

We must also say to others Ps 11:1 In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?

We must remember  Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

And when we need a little more help read the testimony of someone who trusted in the Lord and saw that His faithfulness.  Psalm 18
