Caring: Week 1 Day 1

August 2013: Week 1, Day 1

August is the month of caring. With this, remember that the Lord cares for you.

Our bible reading for today is Psalm 1

Blessed is the man

Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
 And in His law he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,
 Whose leaf also shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so,

But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,

Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,

But the way of the ungodly shall perish

When reading this passage of scripture, we can see that the person that follows the will of God, prays, trusts, and delights in Him will be blessed. I don’t know about you, I am that person. I look for my needs to be met. His ways are my delight. This world can make it hard, so when I lose focus, I rely on the Lord to bring me back to the place that I need to be in with Him. Since He cares for me, He has no problem bringing me back or helping me focus.

In this chapter there are also indicators of how God cares and will take care of us. Verse 3 says,

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth fruit in its season,
Whose leaf shall not wither…

All of the trees of the earth have been planted. They were planted by God. This scripture states that God will plant us as he has done all of the other trees, but there is something special about the way that He will plant us. He will give us a special place to live. This place will be an environment that is beneficial to our health. “Planted by the rivers of water…” This water will help to sustain us. Since we will have the ideal environment for growth, we will also bear fruit when the time is right. Not only are we shown that we will have the right conditions to grow, we are also shown that we will not endure extreme conditions because our “leaf shall not wither…” This is also an indicator that the sun will not shine down on us too much, nor will the temperatures be extreme so that our leaf withers.

I’m not sure if you are seeing this or not, but I see it as God being our caretaker. He makes sure that the right environment is provided for us to grow and to continue to have a healthy life. He even makes sure that our life is effective or fruitful. This will all take great care on the part of our God.

The great thing is that not only is he willing to care for me, but he is also willing to care for you and everyone else that will trust, believe, and depend on the Lord. Those who choose to take counsel from the Lord and follow his word choose to ignore the counsel of the ungodly and shall be blessed.

God is our caretaker…remember this!

The word for the day is Psalm 1:3

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither,
And whatever he does shall prosper…

Look at your life and see the many ways that you are the tree and God is your caretaker.

If you look at your life and find it hard to see that God is your caretaker, I challenge you to begin to see your life from this perspective from now on. Become that person that relies, trusts, believe, and depends on God…I’m sure you’ll begin to see things differently.

Be encouraged…
