A Reading of Proverbs 9

This is a reading of Proverbs 9 A Reading of Proverbs 9 1WISDOM HAS built her house; she has hewn out and set up her seven [perfect number of] pillars. 2She has killed her beasts, she has mixed her [spiritual] wine; she has also set her table. 3She has sent out her maids to cry from the highest places of the town: 4Whoever is simple (easily led astray and wavering), let him turn in here! As for him who lacks understanding, [God's] Wisdom says to him, 5Come, eat of my bread and drink of the [spiritual] wine which I have mixed. 6Leave off, simple ones [forsake the foolish and simpleminded] and live! And walk in the way of insight and understanding. 7He who rebukes a scorner heaps upon himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man gets for himself bruises. 8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 9Give instruction to a wise man and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man (one upright and in right standing with God) and he will increase in learning. 10The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and … [Read more...]

Reading of Proverbs 8

This is a reading of Proverbs 8. Reading of Prov 8 The Excellence of Wisdom 8¬†Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice? 2¬†She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet. 3¬†She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors: 4¬†‚ÄúTo you, O men, I call, And my voice¬†is¬†to the sons of men. 5¬†O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart. 6¬†Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips¬†will come¬†right things; 7¬†For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness¬†is¬†an abomination to my lips. 8¬†All the words of my mouth¬†are¬†with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse¬†is¬†in them. 9¬†They¬†are¬†all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge. 10¬†Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold; 11¬†For wisdom¬†is¬†better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. 12¬†‚ÄúI, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge¬†and¬†discretion. 13¬†The fear of the¬†Lord¬†is¬†to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And … [Read more...]

Meditating On The Word

In the Bible we are told that it is important for us to focus or meditate upon the word of the Lord. ¬†Meditation is not something that many Christians are familiar with. ¬†The reason is that there is a secular way of doing it that is more of a taboo than a positive way of focusing our energy on the Lord and His word. In Genesis 24:63 "Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening, and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there the camels were coming." ¬†The NKJV Bible states that "to meditate may mean to walk around in thought...to do much more than contemplate. ¬†The idea is that one would reflect upon God's Word in a thoughtful way, appropriating its trough personally and applying them to life." Joshua 1:8 ¬†"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. ¬†For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Joshua was instructed to meditate upon the word by God. ¬†This was to be a part of his daily life. ¬†We should assume that it is also to be a part of our lives as well. Psalm 1:2 ¬†But his delight is in the law of the … [Read more...]
