When many people think of God, they often times think of a mean super being who sits on a throne holding a lightning bolt. This image is normally connected to that same being searching the earth for someone to strike with calamity. One thing that we must realize is that our creator, the God of the bible, and Father of Jesus Christ is nothing like that. He isn’t waiting for us to mess up. No! He is looking for us to be successful. He wants to help us and encourage us. He doesn’t want us to fear and be distressed. No! He wants us to have a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
It is so important that we know Him. We must know what He is like because there are many in this world claiming that God is one way, when He’s not. These people would have us following them, proclaiming their version of truth (really a lie), and living for their selfish purposes.
Many of us have previously been deceived. The majority of our thoughts and actions have caused us to run away from God. As we run, we cry, shiver, and hide in fear. We have thoughts that God is angry with us and doesn’t love us. These thoughts are produced by sin. Because of these thoughts, we run to those who we think will love us, offering up every devotion that we can muster, for a figment of love. Yet, those whom we offer ourselves up to won’t love us. They won’t plan great things for our future. No! Instead they will plan our demise. It won’t matter how faithful we are, the plan is for us to be used, abused, and then thrown away.
Now it won’t feel that way, but in the end the truth will be seen. So what are we to do?
The bible says that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. (John 8:32)
What is the truth?
The truth is that God is love. He cars for us beyond what we could imagine.
1 Samuel 2:30 says “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, says, I did promise that your house and that of your father [forefather Aaron] should go in and out before Me forever. But now the Lord says, Be it far from Me. For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
Did you catch that?
God said that he will honor those who honor Him, and those who despise Him, He shall lightly esteem. What does that mean? It means that He has power to take the very breath that we breath out of our lungs, but that is not His character. No! He has chosen to give each of us an opportunity to have the wonderful life and experiences that He destined for us.
This is a loving God. He cares for us. He doesn’t turn His back on His children. He is faithful.
So before you buy the lie that God is a destroyer who despises humanity, remember, that’s a lie. God is the Creator who loves us. He esteems us even when we despise Him.
Most people would hate those who hate them, but He’s not a man. He the Creator, our Father, and our God
What a great characteristic…
Today I would like to encourage you to take a look at how God has shown His love to you in your life. Even in the little things, He shows His love. every breath that we breath is an expression of His love towards us.
So adjust the way you think of Him. It will help you respond differently to His love. He has not rejected you so accept His love.
He knows who you are so get to know Him.
He is love…this is the character of God.
