1 My son, keep my words,
And treasure my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and live,
And my law as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Say to wisdom, āYou are my sister,ā
And call understanding your nearest kin,
5 That they may keep you from the immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words.
6 For at the window of my house
I looked through my lattice,
7 And saw among the simple,
I perceived among the youths,
A young man devoid of understanding,
8 Passing along the street near her corner;
And he took the path to her house
9 In the twilight, in the evening,
In the black and dark night.
10 And there a woman met him,
With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11 She was loud and rebellious,
Her feet would not stay at home.
12 At times she was outside, at times in the open square,
Lurking at every corner.
13 So she caught him and kissed him;
With an impudent face she said to him:
14 ā I have peace offerings with me;
Today I have paid my vows.
15 So I came out to meet you,
Diligently to seek your face,
And I have found you.
16 I have spread my bed with tapestry,
Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17 I have perfumed my bed
With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with love.
19 For my husband is not at home;
He has gone on a long journey;
20 He has taken a bag of money with him,
And will come home on the appointed day.ā
21 With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22 Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23 Till an arrow struck his liver.
As a bird hastens to the snare,
He did not know it would cost his life.
24 Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
26 For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27 Her house is the way to hell,
Descending to the chambers of death. (Proverbs 7, New King James Version)
As I read this passage of scripture, one thing kept coming to mind.Ā “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21
There are many things that we treasure, but we don’t always realize that our treasure holds a very special place in our hearts that .
What is it that you treasure?
- Material Items
One of the commentary notes in my bible says “What people consider valuable is where their energy will be spent.Ā Knowing God and investing in His purposes should be the treasure we seek.”
Proverbs 7:1 says My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you.
Proverbs 4:21 saysĀ Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart
It is my responsibility to keep the words of my Heavenly Father and to make sure that they get in my heart.Ā I can’t expect anyone else to do that for me.Ā This process will lead to me to gain wisdom.
With all that goes on around me, it can be very tempting to just skip overĀ the word of God, but if I am to become what He has planned for me to be, I must take part in the process of my becoming.Ā I hope that this doesn’t seem confusing because of the wording.Ā It may seem redundant, but it is a reminder.Ā The wisdom that we see isn’t easy to obtain.Ā Instead it is something that over a time period of being put in our hearts and in front of our eyes, develops in us.
Today we must understand that everyone isn’t for us.Ā We have an enemy out there that is looking forward to our demise.Ā He has a trap set to capture us, but we must guard out hearts will all diligence so that the when we encounter the trap and are tempted, we see the way of escape that the Lord has made for us.Ā The Harlot that is described in this chapter of Proverbs is very crafty and cunning.Ā She is observant and ready with her enticing speech to make us yield and succumb to her desire.Ā The word of God and His Spirit is what will keep us out of her grasp.
We must take heed while we stand, lest we fall; remembering that God has given us many instructions and words of wisdom to protect us, in His word.
I trust God!Ā I know that He will keep me as He has said in His word.Ā Yet, I realize that there is a part that I play.
Today I encourage you to do as I will.Ā Look at what is important to you.Ā Are seeking God and getting His word in your heart on that list?Ā Be honest and identify the things that should not be on the list.Ā Can any of those things be used by the harlot, our enemy to pull you in a direction that lead you to her house, which is on the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death.Ā I know it is a lot, but this evaluation is very important to our healthy progression in this life.
Be encouraged and know that God is for you and not against you.Ā Trust Him and know that all you need, is in Him.
